Hulk vs. Gamma Radiation

Posted by AbigailDara on

Okay, how many of you know who Hulk is? Probably many of you. Now, unless you are like my Dad, who picks up random facts everywhere and manages to stun his 13 year-old like 100 times a day, but rather like me instead, you probably have no idea how gamma radiation managed to turn stately scientist Bruce Banner, into mega-monster The Incredible Hulk (Unless of course you have a dad like mine who likes to be able to answer that kind of question when it gets flung at him) :). Getting off track. Anyway, I’m writing today about Gamma Radiation. And I am going to do my best to explain in my 13 year-old way.

The Radiations attacking a toe (Notice the nail 🙂 , actually take a look at the entire thing)

All the radiations, Alpha, Beta and Gamma, destroy your cells. My science book for this year described their effect as “like tiny machine guns, shooting at your cells”. In the drawing above I show the Gamma with a “death ray” because Gamma can also mutate your cells. That is most likely what happened to poor Bruce Banner. Although, this leads me to wonder why isn’t he like that all the time? How do his cells, that make up his entire body, go back to normal after he calms down?

Getting off track again. So, Bruce Banner doing his experiments with Gamma radiation, and then BOOM!!! Something explodes I’m guessing seeing how this is an Avenger movie. 😉 Innocent scientist Bruce Banner’s cells are exposed to high amounts of Gamma Radiation, mutating them and giving certain ones certain abilities. Muscles, get super strong, Skin, go green, Hair, black is the new brown! Feet, get ridiculously giant! Hands, see Feet.

So, in comic books, this makes for a really good story, a scientist is given super powers, joins the good-guys, and helps save the day many times. But on Earth, Gamma Radiation is actually really dangerous, and high exposure will pretty much assuredly kill you. So don’t try everything you read in the comics at home.

Let’s Get This Party Started!

Posted by AbigailDara on

Hi!

This is my first blog, and I believe in keeping things simple and sweet.

Wiser heads have told me that you should start by introducing yourself to the people reading your blog and then tell them a little bit about yourself. So here goes!

My name is Abigail and I am a teenage girl who loves Jesus, my family and my friends. I’m an Missionary Kid (MK) in-progress and I have five siblings. I’ve lived in and loved both peninsulas of Michigan, primarily the Upper Peninsula (da U.P.), but I am a loyal Chiefs fan. *Chanting the Tomahawk* GO CHIEFS!

I love the color Turquoise, swimming and attempting to make people laugh. I love music and singing; spending many free hours squeaking away on a recorder, playing classical music on a piano, or strumming away on my ukuleles (not to be confused with guitars).

I’ve been homeschooled my entire life, and I’ve had the most amazing teacher in the world the whole time–my mom. 🙂 She is awesome! I love being homeschooled with my siblings, and being the second oldest of us five, I can “force” my will… sometimes. 😉 I’m currently in 8th grade!

Last year, God did some pretty cool stuff in my life–well, not just my life, the whole family as well–pointing us to the mission field to a place called the Solomon Islands. Don’t worry, we had to look it up too! 🙂 This is why I’m an MK. Over the course of this past year, I’ve driven through over half of the States, stopping in many of them. I saw some amazing sights including Yellowstone National Park, the Rockies, the Appalachians, and Pensacola Beach. Traveling around the country has been a blast, as we’ve seen family and friends and shared with people about our journey. 🙂 [You can check out my parents’ blog for more information on their ministry.]

When I “grow up” I want to be some sort of linguist/translator person, or maybe even an actor. I love language and I love acting, but it is up to God to take me where He wants me to go, so who knows? I love acting because when I was in 6th grade, I was in an all-school musical, and I absolutely loved it! I love language because I started learning Spanish last year, and that was really awesome.

My favorite food is a burrito. In fact I love any other Mexican food, which is quite convenient with my love of Spanish. 🙂 [I know, I love smiley faces :)]

For all of you TobyMac fans, you may recognize that this post borrows the title from one of his songs. For those of you who have no idea who he is, we need to talk. 🙂

If you have anything you want me to write about, post it in the comments, I will look at it and decide if I want to reply. 🙂 And, if you want to hear more of my crazy-but-true and awesome stories, then keep coming back!
